FEATURE IN EDGE

Dakoulas sums up his brand messaging: "Doing what you want and not letting others put you down. Having fun in the midst of something bad. Not taking life too seriously. We could die any day, so why waste your time worrying about shit that doesn’t matter?"

I recently talked with Edge Media Network about Dance Party Massacre, and they were able to get some choice nuggets of info about me and DPM. They even caught me swearing so props to that.

BAZAAR BIZARRE BOSTON - WINTER FAIR 2012

We have one last big selling event before the holidays hit - this is usually our biggest one too! In it's twelfth year, the Bazaar Bizarre will be happening this Sunday featuring over 100 independent vendors selling handmade, unique, and honestly... pretty cool stuff. There's a lot of craft fairs and markets out there - many of which don't really fit with our more “intense” style. But this market offers a wide range of quality product for gals, guys and kids.

Check out more info on their website, including a vendor list and something new this year called the Night Owl Shopping Hour. While it's only $1 to get in, if you show up the last hour it's free entry and they'll be big discounts happening at many vendors for any product still remaining. Dance Party Massacre will be doing special last-minute holiday gift deals all day, so come take advantage of that.

Bazaar Bizarre Boston
The Cyclorama:
539 Tremont St, Boston, MA
Time: Sunday, Dec 16 / 12-6PM

Hope to see you one last time this year!

THE PHOENIX'S APOCALYPSE GIFT GUIDE

Local Boston publication The Phoenix put together a gift guide for the impending apocalypse later this month. Of course, that play on fun and death was a perfect match for Dance Party Massacre and we were happy to be featured as part of the list.

If you aren't in Boston to pick up a copy, you can view the list online here that also includes an Armageddon beer and a zombie bowling game. Hmm... this is making me antsy for our End of the World Party. Will you be joining us?

MASSART HOLIDAY SALE 2012

Every holiday season my alma mater MassArt runs a holiday sale featuring juried work of alumni and current students. Like many art schools, it's a chance to showcase the college and at the same time allow a venue for artists to sell their work. It helps future students as well, with part of the profits going to scholarships. (MassArt is the only publicly-funded art school in the entire U.S.)

This is consistently one of the most successful sales we have all year (I think most money comes from keeping those art kids clothed.) MassArt is one of the top art schools in the country, and this sale showcases a wide variety of what people are doing with their education. So when you go into the sale to pick up one of our shirts (wink wink) with Michael Myers on it, you could also pick up something nice for your momma.

The sale lasts all week, and even opened a day earlier to allow more foot traffic to come in. Stop on by if you're in Boston!

MassArt Holiday Sale: 621 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA
Hours: Dec 2 – 8 / 10AM-7PM

PS-While you're there, head on over to MassArt Made, a boutique of work for sale by all students that is open year round. I just dropped off a big order there!

DID JEFFREE STAR RIP OFF DANCE PARTY MASSACRE?

Jeffree Star, the androgynous scene-star of the underground crowd is coming out with his own clothing line called Vanity Forever (now Beauty Forever, see update below.) It apparently launches next week at some store called Paper Alligator, and he's been previewing what I can only assume will be a staple of the launch: A black cap with the phrase "Killin' It" in tall, white, thin letters.

Wait... that looks oddly familiar.

Now I'm not going to claim he ripped us off. I'm not oblivious to the fact that nothing is truly original in this world, and when I came out with this design I purposefully did it because I knew it was a trendy pop-culture saying. But I will say the product similarities are striking. And I am gonna say, Jeffree - your designers didn't do quick search to see if it's already been done in a similar way? If you type in "killin it hat" in Google our hat is the 2nd link and the first 5 images.

Jeffree, next time have your people call my people (it's just me). We can do a collab since apparently our styles are so similar. I ain't mad. But to all the Jeffree Star fans who may see our design and think we ripped him off: this post is so you know the truth. Also, if you like that hat go get it as a sweatshirt.

UPDATE (Dec 7): Changed my mind - he's ripping us off. (Can't you at least style your models differently?)

UPDATE #2 (Feb 1): We did send a cease & desist back in December, and never heard word back. But he has since changed the name of the brand from "Vanity Forever" to "Beauty Forever". (Did you get bad press or something?) He also just yelled at some other celeb for ripping his hats off (ironic, since it's the same thing we accused him of.) You decide... because he sure isn't talking to us. We found out today that he's also blocked us on Twitter.

THANKFULNESS + BLACK FRIDAY

This is an old photo of me selling my shirts, before Dance Party Massacre even began. Today I am thankful for the family, friends and fans whose support has allowed me to create something of my own. I truly get joy in making something out of nothing, but it would be nothing without others to share it with. Thank you all for buying shirts and hats and posters and koozies, for spreading word and telling your friends, and for being so enthusiastic about the brand - without you, Dance Party Massacre wouldn't still be here 5 years after it started. The inspiration that you and this brand give me is priceless.

Tomorrow is what those in the retail game called “Black Friday” - feel free to use the discount “BLACKFRIDAY” for 20% off all listed prices in everything in the store. Go grab something you've been eyeing or get a jump on holiday shopping!

PS-Today is the last day to preorder our Fangoria collaboration at a discounted price.
