QUESTION + E-MAIL
What animal would you like to “splice” with a human?
bostonfilmlovers@yahoo.com

SUMMARY
Superstar genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, Clive and Elsa secretly conduct their own experiments. The result is Dren, an amazing, strangely beautiful creature that exhibits uncommon intelligence and an array of unexpected physical developments. And though, at first, Dren exceeds their wildest dreams, she begins to grow and learn at an accelerated rate—and threatens to become their worst nightmare.

Banksy in Boston

Check out another piece via HighSnobiety.

A few weeks back I saw a Banksy rat on an electric box in South Boston. A friend contemplated nabbing that up and selling it on ebay for $$$, but questioned it’s validity. Maybe he had nothing to worry about!

With Banksy’s film currently out in theaters, he’s doing much of what Obey’s Shepard Fairey did when his solo show came to the ICA: PROMOTE! Shepard did his fair share of bringing his well-known aesthetic to the Greater Boston area, and now Banksy seems to have shown up in Cambridge and Chinatown. Jump on finding them before they’re painted over

It’s a funny thing to think about. Is being an “underground” artist promoting yourself to the public contradictory? Are you a sell out? If you’ve seen Banksy’s film “Exit Through The Gift Shop” it’s much much less about Banksy’s work, and much more a commentary on street art and the perception of what makes it (and art in general) important. You can see the film in Boston at Landmark Cinema in Kendall Square.

Trailer for Banksy’s “Exit Through The Gift Shop”.

Hearthrob (The End) Video + 5 Questions with Red Foxx

Hearthrob was a dance night that took place every other Tuesday at the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge, MA. It was an electro powerhouse set in a small dark room in an unsuspecting city.

After 4 years it ended last week, partly because of resident DJ Red Foxx’s move to NYC. One of the driving forces behind the night, after the cut he answers DPM’s 5 Questions—Talking about the end, a new beginning, and the stuff that happened along the way.

—————————————-

1) How did Hearthrob begin?
Me, Baltimoroder and Morgan Louis didn’t really know each other, but we all knew Greg Fournier. Greg had a hunch that we’d be a killer DJ team together, and he was right. We made a weird animated .gif flyer, Greg came up with the “Hearthrob” name, we had a Tuesday at Middlesex and somehow it all just worked.

I started making video for the night and Youtube promos, and then things started to really blow up… Later Bloodsugar came on doing visuals, and more recently Morgan Louis retired and Dev/Null joined us as a resident.
