A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

This movie is for people who never got off their butts to see the original.
It looks like nothing more than a flashy version of the same thing, with the same scenes, imagery, and story. It’s the same as the other 33 horror remakes just like it.

What a waste.

Thunderdome XIV: 3D

thunderdome_3d

After somehow making it to 4 previous destinations Friday night (I say that mostly in surprise to myself) I finally made it to the return of Thunderdome—In 3D! I only realized the next morning walking to breakfast that apparently it took place in a church …although I did think the South End street we were on looked suspiciously domesticated in comparison to the swarm of 20-somethings standing outside the joint.

Inside the TD crew really impressed. The 3D part of it sold me the most, because they went all out. The 3D projections actually worked and were in all directions, the eye-popping glasses were custom-made, and the 3D photobooth (which really does work if you still have glasses) is something I’ve never seen. Even when I wasn’t staring longingly at the walls that night, my normal 3D world just looked better in messed up red&blue.

Word is another Thunderdome is set for October 30th… Halloween style. I am going to keep my eye on what they pull out this time.

You can check out 2D photos from the event also on Nicky Digital and Beantown Boogie Down.

Devastation at Fourth Wall Project

img_0444

I try to post about art openings around the city of Boston whenever I stumble across something worth seeing. Currently on display at the Fourth Wall Project is a show that impressed me greater than any has in a good while.

Devastate Your Real Estate features work by Dana Woulfe, Kenji Nakayama, Buildmore Shrines, Dark Cloud, Josh Falk, Metal Wing, NEVER and Evoker. The show mostly features work in paint, but varies in execution from stencil to freehand and messy to clean. It all comes together with an inviting sense of color and unpretentious style that gives off an “underground” feel in the best sense. There’s some surefire talent put into the work that isn’t always seen in these parts!

Check it out before the show closes on Oct 18th at 132 Brookline Ave near Fenway. You can see some more pics from Devastate Your Real Estate here and after the cut.

PS-The show is put on by the same guys who run Bodega, your favorite undercover street boutique. Get a look at the space in this video featuring a previous installation.

Bloody Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga went all Dance Party Massacre at the VMAs!
That girl is CRAZY.

When that blood started pouring out I flipped my lid, pounced from my chair, and started walking in circles going “Oh no, she didn’t!”.

I’ve got to be kinda messed up to have that bring a smile to my face.

No, Google Images, I did not mean “lady gaga blonde mtv”… I meant blood.

Supernatural TV Spots

I don’t remember the last time I watched a full episode of Supernatural. It always seems too slow and serious for me. Plus, I always think Jensen Ackles is pushing his voice lower than it actually is to sound tough or something.

But every once in a while I see a cool Supernatural TV spot that makes me think I should give the show another chance. The one above for the new season is no exception, and I put a few others behind the cut.

Horror Remix: All Killer, No Filler

shopping_horror_remix

I like coming across things I wish I had made, and things I really wanna go to. It makes me feel less like an insane person. This “insanity” usually sets in when I’m watching crappy horror movies, foreign horror movies, good horror movies, and then I want to turn on my fog machine and have my own Night of The Demons dance party, but I realize I am alone…

Turns out there’s this film showing in Texas, in what seems to be once a month, called Horror Remix where they take all the boring stuff out of crappy horror films and condense them down to about a half hour movie. It’s a genius idea!

They usually show about 3 at a time with a given theme like “Shopping“, “Sorority Slashers“, or “Demon Dolls“. Hand me a beer and I’m there!

And speaking of “Sorority Slashers”, I bet Horror Remix could do a number of Sorority Row, because that film needed some crap cut out!

The Mighty Delaware EP (FREE Music Download!)

My friends Pat Falco and Casey D make up The Mighty Delaware, the NEXT BIG THING IN COMEDY HIP HOP. Ok, maybe not, but it could happen. And if you want me to sell them to you in a few words: “They fit in right between Flight of the Conchords and SNL Digital Shorts.”

And they wear DPM.

They just released their first EP, which you can download for free here. I recommend checking out “Metero So Sexual” and don’t skip the interlude “Tom Cruise”!

Also, if you’re in Boston they’re performing this Friday at MassArt’s Pozen Center with Black Kettle.

Film Poster Paintings from Ghana

evildead2

This sounds so majorly weird, but I guess it all makes sense. In the age of the internet, it’s now easy to send anything to anyone in the world, but back in the 1980s the only way for people in Ghana to see a lot of American movies were in small, illegal film screenings.

There used to be “mobile cinemas” that would travel from town to town playing the movies on a VCR and TV. To advertise the showings, artists were hired to paint their own film posters, often not even relating to the subject matter at all, or adding in things that were not in the movie.

Check out these oddly alluring kitsch-like posters here—a lot of which include horror movies for some reason. And thanks to Rahul from BOSTAWESOME (posting about free events in Boston) for the heads up!
