I love the fact that the first fan presents we’ve received were:
1) a little custom Munny covered in blood
2) the original Friday the 13th Nintendo game from 1985
SO GOOD.
Feels good that people get the line.
Gets me pumped to work on it more!
The turnout for the Abstract & Decay show that DPM helped sponsor had a great turnout! LAB Boston always does a good job at bringing a crowd, and the artwork all worked well together. A window painting by Kenji Nakayama, Evoker, and Enamel Kingdom was the icing on the cake!
One week from today Dance Party Massacre will be helping to sponsor an art show at LAB Boston featuring the work of Jessica Hess, Anna Trazaska, Katie Hovland, and Ruhal Shan. I suspect their combined work will have a combination of grittiness and polish, but you can see for yourself if you stop on by 113 Brighton Ave in Allston!
I don’t know these guys, but I happened to go to The Pill’s website for the first time, for whatever reason, and saw someone wearing our Start Living shirt. Turns out it’s one of the members of the band The Televandals and they’re playing tonight at Great Scott!
Always cool to come across someone you don’t know wearing something you made!
Joss Whedon is the brainchild of all things horror, cult, sci-fi, diy, and geekiness. If he incorporated a bit more partying and pizazz into his work, he would be our God.
Our God if he believed in one that is.
Mr. Whedon made an appearance at Harvard’s Memorial Church this last Friday where he received their 2009 Cultural Humanism Award. As an open Atheist getting an award for his work related to Humanism (non-believers from what I gather) it must have been someone’s funny idea to hold this on Good Friday at a gigantic church.
He responded to a lengthy Q&A on not just his work, but his beliefs on God, morality, religion, and how that’s incorporated into his stories and his characters. Of these he talked about not being told what to believe, but discovering it yourself, and how often times it’s the people in power who are to blame for wrong-doings, not necessarily the people who did them (for example: children fighting in wars).
In the clip above he answers a question about where our views on right and wrong come from if it’s not, say, God vs. The Devil. As an avid horror movie fan, which are often about the battle of good and evil, this was interesting to hear.
Don’t you know we’re all living in a horror movie?!
As we move into our Spring collection currently being made, below are some trivia facts about our Winter ‘09 Promo video which as been making the rounds the past few months.
• Each character has a color palette: Green, Blue, and Red/B&W
• Mike’s mask (the green one) is actually upside down
• Other options for masks included Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger
• Locations were my Yaya’s house (Greek grandma) and the surrounding woods
• Shot in a matter of about 6 hours
• Basically everyone is just wearing my clothes
• Equipment was only 1 camera and 2 floodlights
A short behind the scenes clip that we just posted is above!
