DPM now in Horror Business!

Hey everyone,

Awesome news! Another great Boston-based store is now carrying select items from Dance Party Massacre. The appropriately titled Horror Business in Allston is now housing our gear and I’m thinking their customers just might dig it.

Founded by Troy J. Schoeller the name of the store has a two part meaning. He’s been an embalmer for 13 years (yikes!) and Horror Business is one of his favorite Misfits songs. The shop carries clothing and music for the hardcore fans out there, and I’m glad that we’re a part of it.

So take a gander, and stop by the store located at 77 Harvard Ave in Allston (Rock City). Don’t worry about Troy, he seemed like a nice guy when I’ve talked with him!

If you know of a shop that would be interested in carrying Dance Party Massacre, shoot me an e-mail: alex(AT)dancepartymassacre.com.

Thanks,
Alex

Shanghai Skate Culture

Hello hello,

I don’t skate, but I’ll pretend I do for this post. (I don’t have enough balance to not fall over and kill myself.)

I went with some friends to this skate event in Shanghai. Youth culture is very interesting in China, because it wasn’t until recently really that the rest of the world was opened up to them. The youth are rapidly catching up to all these different trends from around the world, and skateboarding is just one of them.

Watching these people skate, to be honest, none of them were that great. Heck ya, they were better than I could do, but that’s not saying much. You can’t fault them though because it’s all fairly new to them. While youth in America or other places may have grown up with a board, these kids just started a few years ago—if that.

With skateboarding involving such a youth-oriented crowd it was interesting to see the clothes they were wearing and the trends they were following. There were also some live bands playing at what seemed to be a really great skatepark.

I took a video while there of people just walking by and boarders in the background. Halfway inbetween you see a man stand in front of the camera, because this crew approached me to take a photo of myself for their street culture blog and help spread the news of it. It’s just one example of how the youth in China is already involved in growing and spreading the culture that is around them. Be on the lookout for this next generation.

Halloweeeeen

Been a while since it happened, but looking back I can safely say this Halloween was a total success. The Paper party was cool, but I was mostly on duty manning our “merch table”. The next night I made it to 3 parties and got home at, I dunno, 4AM… so that basically equaled a good time.

Once you grow past the trick-or-treating phase Halloween becomes less about scary stories and more about dressing up and making a fool of yourself. Something at Dance Party Massacre that is fine with us!

First party we went to was hosted by some guy named Eric who works at Puma, which sounds like messing with the enemy, but it was cool. He managed to keep the spook and the fun together and the whole place was decorated like hell with the ticker being custom blacklight-responsive paint and some reaaaallllly great music that I would totally have picked out myself.

There was also an ice luge, which I hadn’t done in years, and kept telling people that it was gross. But it was really just a facade, because I eventually put my lips to that ice and never looked back. We ended up at that party most of the night and now Eric has a brand new coat to call his own that I left in his closet.

After an awful cab-ride that took foreeveeerr and yanked us of our money, we got lost and finally found my co-worker Dana’s place (See? Kept the Converse alive too.). It was probably dying down, but that was fine. I could only make out about half of peoples costumes because they were falling apart by this time of the night.

My friends who also lives in JP gave me a ride home, but we found some friends on the side of the street looking like bums waiting for a cab. So they hopped in the car, which was NOT meant for this many people, and dropped them off in Chinatown. One of them really wanted Chinese food, and we weren’t gonna stop the guy.

Stopped by one last place on the way home. Managed to use my Mountain Dew/Vodka/Blood combo drink, and then went home and peaced out. Best part of the last party—I walk in and playing on the TV is A Nightmare on Elm Street 2. I made a geek of myself and called out the film to some girl on the couch and went on to tell her how gay the movie is, like literally gay.

THE END.

Greetings Americans

Hey everyone,

I should preface this post with the fact that as I am writing this it is 3:30 AM and I am in Shanghai. I had to leave abruptly from the US, and the city of Boston, and will be only be back at the end of November. If I am inconsistent with my posts, or miss writing about Bansky being at Harvard Square filming a tektonic music video with zombies wearing sunglasses it’s because I might be out of the loop for a while.

With that being said, Paper was crazy-packed last Thursday! Of course, it usually is, but not with everyone wearing ridiculous outfits. I think I freaked people a bit by handing out the raffles in a bleeding Ghostface costume, but it was Halloween you nards! I hope everyone enjoyed the free candy, vampire teeth, and oh ya, and FREE SHIRTS!

Big ups to Andrew for letting us join in on the fun (and DJ E-Marcé for playing “Psycho Killer” by The Talking Heads!) I’d say the Halloween Release party was a SUCCESS!

You can check out photos from Lara Callahan with all the night’s calamaties.

Til we speak again,
Alex
