1.5 Release Photos

Hey guys and gals,

Thanks to the friends who came out to see the release of our new stuff. It was a pretty chill, but still rocking, time and I hope it was good for you as it was for me. (wink wink)

While the fog machine completely engulfing everyone on the dancefloor was fairly dramatic, I think the best part for me was when the party started dying down I found everyone practically glued to the screen watching A Nightmare on Elm Street 4. (Thanks for grabbing that Gebo!)

Ha, there’s nothing much better than a movie with karate moves, colored lights, a lone girl, and Freddy Krueger. Just check out Alice getting ready for battle!

Photos from the 1.5 Release Party can be found here!

And don’t forget next weekend is Mass Market, followed by the MassArt Spring Sale! I can already tell you the new shirts will be available at both events, and they’ll be on sale at Mass Market!

Upcoming Spring Events

Hey everyone,

While I sit here the morning before the release party for the new stuff I realized I should probably let you know about what else will be coming up for DPM.

1.5 SEASON RELEASE PARTY
Saturday, April 19th
9PM—1AM
Jamaica Plain, MA

As I said, tonight we’re releasing the new shirts (and bandannas!) at a private house party in JP. Ya, we throw house parties to release stuff—It’s more fun that way. But maybe one day we’ll have it a more “established function” with security (and invite the public) and that way we don’t have to worry about 18 year olds coming in and getting alcohol poisoning and dying and us going to jail.

MASS MARKET
Sunday, May 4th
10AM—5PMe
$1 Entrance fee to go the Aids Action Committee
621 Huntington Ave
Boston, MA

Next weekend we’ll have a table at the 2nd Mass Market being held in the Pozen Center of MassArt. Mass Market is a DIY flea market where record distros, local bands, button makers, book makers, artists, clothing designers, djs, vegan and vegetarian bakers, and many others will come together for a day of swapping, sharing, selling and buying art. I hear this year there will also be a clothing swap and local band table!

MASSART ANNUAL SPRING SALE
Monday, May 5th—Saturday, May 10th
10AM—7PM
621 Huntington Ave
Boston, MA

Being a MassArt alum I get the chance to put my work for sale in our yearly Spring and Winter Sales. It’s a great opportunity for the community to see what we make and for us to earn back some money to pay for all those loans from college! Most of the profits go directly back to the artists and designers, with part of the money going to MassArt to help fund scholarships. Almost every medium of art and design is represented at the sale so it’s a great way to pick up something unique!

MassArt Calendar

That’s what’s coming up soon!
Try to make them!

Thanks,
Alex

RAISE HELL Preorder

To the DPM Crew,

A year ago a young man by the name of Gordon Riker was killed while riding his bike down Huntington Ave in Boston. This young man was a friend of mine—a fellow designer that I went to school with and had come to respect as one of the few I know who had the passion to create something for himself. Dying at age 22, I think I will miss most not being able to see what else he would do. Gordon would have turned 23 a few weeks later.

Adding to the shock, a month after what happened to Gordon, a young woman by the name of Kelly Wallace was killed while riding her bike at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Harvard Ave in the same city. In a strange twist, Gordon and Kelly had been friends and soon after his death had begged people to be careful when riding. With the phrase “wishful thinking” tattooed on her arms, Kelly has been described as someone who got along with everyone. I didn’t know Kelly, but I feel like I would have liked her if I had.

Two deaths like this in the same city within the same circle of friends prompted something to be done. Besides tribute concerts, fundraisers, and ghosts bikes to honor these two, Zack Smith decided to start up a non-profit organization titled H.E.L.L. (Helping Everyone Live Longer). While it raises awareness of bike safety, H.E.L.L.’s main goal is give out free helmets with the proceeds they receive.

As part of the update to Dance Party Massacre’s first season, we will be releasing a new design in collaboration with H.E.L.L. Not only will wearing their name around help spread word of their cause, but we will donate 10% of the profits directly to H.E.L.L. so they can give out free helmets and help save lives. If you wish to preorder this design at a discounted price of $24, we will ship the shirts first thing Monday, April 21st—a week before all the new designs are released. Just scroll to the bottom of this post.

This is what Dance Party Massacre is all about. It’s about our nightmares, our worst fears. It’s about making our dreams reality. It’s about living our lives and dancing while we still can. We can make it. We won’t be brought down.

Thanks everyone,
Alex

*UPDATE*
Recently (June 07) it has been announced that H.E.L.L. is going to be on hiatus for a bit of time. We discussed this with Zack and they have complete intentions to start it back up. DPM will continue to donate money to their cause, which will be held and saved until H.E.L.L. reopens.
